Bands to perform at festival

By Valerie Rowell
Staff Writer

Grovetown's Heritage Festival will highlight the city Saturday.

The ninth annual festival will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. near Grovetown City Hall on Old Wrightsboro Road at Robinson Avenue.

Opening ceremonies will include a performance by a Fort Gordon military band, said City Councilwoman Rosa Lee Owens, the event coordinator.

"It has been highly successful in years past," she said. "We're just hoping it'll hold up on the rain."

The day's agenda includes a 10:30 a.m. canine demonstration by Jae-Mar-S Academy of Dog Obedience, a 1 p.m. performance from Fort Gordon's Navy band, and a 2 p.m. country and gospel performance by The Byrd Family.

Entertainment also includes round, line and square dancing; youth choral groups; dance groups; and karaoke, Owens said.

There will be lots of activities for children, including rides and games by Wisteria Hill Plantation. The Grovetown Museum will be open for tours during the event.

A Community Unity Walk is slated for 9 a.m. Anyone interested can join in the roughly block-long walk that starts near city hall, said Dawn Greene, walk organizer.
